Code of Conduct (originally created by The Art Room)
The life drawing studio is a beautiful, unique and intimate space where both the model and the artist are in vulnerable positions. This environment demands a high level of mutual respect and professionalism.
A life model is a collaborator, not an object for titillation or to be objectified. Their comfort and safety are essential for them to engage openly and confidently. As artists themselves, it is crucial that we ensure the model feels respected and secure at all times.
By adhering to this code, we aim to create a positive, respectful and safe environment for everyone involved, ensuring clarity and consistency in our professional interactions.
General
Models Space: The model podium is reserved for the model only. Do not approach the model until they are robed.
Physical Contact: Under no circumstances should you touch the model.
Room Presence: Do not leave the room while the model is unclothed and minimize unnecessary movement around the room while the model is posing.
Comments on Appearance: Avoid commenting on the model’s body to prevent discomfort or vulnerability.
Personal Information: Do not request personal details such as phone numbers or email addresses from the model.
Positioning: Do not shift your position to focus on sensitive areas of the model.
Inappropriate Behaviour: Do not pursue romantic or sexual relationships with models.
Private Sessions Booking: For private sessions, please consult the facilitator instead of approaching the model directly.
Cultural Respect: Discussions about and with models should be culturally sensitive, avoiding stereotypes and generalizations.
Professional Interactions: Interactions with models should remain professional and related to session

Photography & Devices

Reporting and Compliance
Reporting Issues: Report any breaches of this code of conduct or inappropriate behaviour immediately to the facilitator or teacher. Adherence to these guidelines is crucial for a respectful and safe environment.
Duty of Care
Duty of Care: We take the safety and comfort of our models very seriously. We are responsible for ensuring the safety and respect of our models. The model is empowered by the faciliator to ask that any artist leave if they feel uncomfortable due to previous interactions or any current behaviour. We will always support our models in this. Therefore, if we request that you leave the session please do so discreetly. This decision is final and not subject to discussion.
